Commissioned by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, the Directorate of Fisheries has prepared a report with recommendations for three areas for offshore aquaculture.
Optimistic future for offshore aquaculture off Helgeland
At the request of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, the Directorate of Fisheries proposed in November 2021 three areas along the Norwegian coast for impact assessment and possible adaptation for offshore aquaculture. The Directorate requested input on the proposal from various sector authorities and stakeholders.
Offshore aquaculture off the Helgeland coast
In November 2021, the aquaculture company Lovundlaks announced an interest in investigating the possibilities for offshore aquaculture off the Helgeland coast in Nordland. The development work will be carried out through the company Utror.
50 years of farming
It all started in June 1972, when a small seaplane carrying salmon smolt landed on Lovund – an island at the far end of the Helgeland sea. That was the start of the salmon adventure for the family company Lovundlaks and the entire aquaculture industry in Nordland.
