The Directorate of Fisheries recommends the Trænabanken

Commissioned by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, the Directorate of Fisheries has prepared a report with recommendations for three areas for impact assessments for offshore aquaculture.

The Directorate of Fisheries recommends that area 2 Norskerenna South, area 11 Frøyabanken North and area 5 Trænabanken be made the subject of a public overall impact assessment with the purpose of facilitating offshore aquaculture. However, area 5 has been given a slightly different demarcation than it originally had in the Area Report from 2019. The Directorate of Fisheries states that the border east of Trænabanken should be taken 20 nautical miles further out to sea, in line with input from the Environment Agency.

-Succeeded in including Trænabanken in the report Utror and Lovundlaks have worked to highlight all the good reasons to also include Nordland in the report. With valuable support from stakeholders both locally, regionally and nationally, we have together succeeded in highlighting the good conditions the region has for offshore aquaculture. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to shedding light on Trænabanken in this context – no one mentioned, no one forgotten!

Now it is up to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries and the government to make the final decision. In the meantime, we at Utror and Lovundlaks will not sit idly by, but will continue to work on developing what could become a new growth engine for the aquaculture industry along the coast.
