offshore aquaculture industry handbook
The development of offshore aquaculture has really accelerated in Norway in recent years. The industry represents a new direction within aquaculture that will require significant technological development, large investments and the development of a new value chain along our coast.
Offshore, the industry has the opportunity to start with a completely clean slate without contamination and with a comprehensive plan for industrial development in place prior to the allocation of production capacity. With fifty years of experience and expertise behind it, Utror has the ambition to develop technology, value chain and expertise on the premises of biology, and thereby contribute to increased sustainable food production.
But what is the actual status of the work on developing offshore aquaculture? What prerequisites do we have to succeed with offshore aquaculture in Norway? What are the most important success factors and risk factors? How big is the potential? What do we know today, and what knowledge gaps need to be filled along the way? Will it be profitable? What about the market prospects for the food product, Atlantic salmon?
Inspired by our seafood colleagues at Mowi, who annually publish their industry handbook for traditional aquaculture, Utror has prepared an industry handbook for offshore aquaculture where we attempt to provide answers to some of these questions.
The industry handbook can be downloaded here .
