Consultation response to the government's proposal on Resource Rent Tax

This week the consultation period for the government's proposal for a land rent tax on aquaculture ended. Throughout the consultation period, we at Utror have been actively working on the issue from an aquaculture-to-sea perspective through the preparation of our own consultation response and dialogue with authorities, industry players, interest organizations and other stakeholders.

We feel that the proposal violates the government's stated ambition to facilitate offshore aquaculture, and would like to emphasize that regulatory and political predictability are critical success factors if we are to succeed with offshore aquaculture in Norway. A predictable and well-designed tax system is an important part of this.

Through our consultation response, we want to contribute to the realization of offshore aquaculture in line with the government's and industry's ambitions, through a land rent tax scheme for aquaculture that is investment-neutral. We look forward to continuing the dialogue with authorities and stakeholders in this area in the coming period. With the right adjustments, we strongly believe that it is still possible to succeed with offshore aquaculture in Norway, so that we can maintain our position as a world-leading aquaculture nation – also with land rent tax.
